The Browns rolled through the Eagles for a 22-17 Week 11 win that improved their record to 7-3, their best record after 10 games since 1994, and pushed them a step further in their push to the playoffs. The offense used big — and, at times, hurdle-filled — runs from their running backs to find the end zone. And even though the Browns were without defensive end Myles Garrett, the defense still made punishing plays against the Eagles’ offense.

Here are the plays that mattered most in the win:

1. Browns force red-zone takeaway on first Eagles’ drive

Cleveland was without two of its top defensive playmakers when the Eagles entered the red zone on their first drive of the game.

Garrett, who entered Sunday with the NFL lead with 9.5 sacks and was tied for the lead with four forced fumbles, was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday. Safety Cheap Ronnie Harrison Jersey, who was on the field for every defensive snap in Week 10, exited the field earlier in the drive to get looked at by the medical staff.

But the absences of two top players didn’t stop the defense from halting an early threat from Philadelphia. Running back Miles Sanders lost his grip on the ball as he moved through the trenches at Cleveland’s 5-yard line. Safety Cheap Karl Joseph Jersey, who entered in relief of Harrison, pounced on the ball and sealed the turnover.

That was only the start of a massive day from the defense.

2. Sione Takitaki seals first career pick-six

The Browns defense re-invigorated their turnover abilities Sunday in quick fashion.

When quarterback Carson Wentz, who led the NFL with 12 interceptions entering Week 11, dropped back for a second-and-7 from Cleveland’s 46-yard line, he didn’t see cornerback Denzel Ward bringing pressure. Ward got a piece of Wentz’s throwing arm, and the ball sailed high in the air.

Takitaki was in the area and had plenty of time to make the catch and sprint to the end zone. He dropped to his knees and held out his arms once he crossed the goal line and celebrated with teammates to cap off the biggest play of his NFL career.

The Browns were up 7-0, and the defense was eating into the Eagles’ offense early.

3. Mayfield fumbles, Eagles recover in the red zone

The Browns’ first drive of the second half took a quick and unfortunate turn on second-and-8 from Cleveland’s 30-yard line.

As Mayfield maneuvered through the pocket for a pass attempt, Pro Bowl DT Fletcher Cox swatted his hand at the football, which slipped away from Mayfield’s grasp and fell backwards into an empty backfield. No Browns players saw the fumble — the ball was behind all of them — which made it easy for Eagles linebacker Alex Singleton to pounce on it at the 19-yard line.

The Eagles quickly turned the takeaway into points and threw a touchdown on the next play to even the score at 7-7.

4. Vernon sacks Wentz in the end zone for a safety

The Browns defensive line thrived without its best player against the Eagles’ offense.

Even though Garrett wasn’t on the field with them, each player from the defensive line had bright moments Sunday. None was bigger than Cheap Olivier Vernon Jersey game-changing play in the third quarter.

Vernon recorded his third sack of the game when he sacked Wentz into the end zone grass for a safety that put the Browns up 12-7. Vernon, as well as Cheap Larry Ogunjobi Jersey, Cheap Sheldon Richardson Jersey and Cheap Adrian Clayborn Jersey, all stepped up with big games to fill the void from Garrett. Vernon, meanwhile, recorded the most sacks by a Browns player since Garrett in Week 2 of last season.

5. Hunt flies over defender for second TD

Cheap Kareem Hunt Jersey took flight with 9 minutes left in the fourth quarter — literally.

Hunt appeared to run on air as he hurdled over Jalen Mills to reach the pylon for a 5-yard touchdown run that put the Browns up 19-10 after a successful PAT. He originally broke a tackle from a defender in the backfield before he turned the corner and prepared his leap, and he landed in the end zone when both feet finally returned to the ground.

The unbelievable play followed another special run from another Browns running back. Cheap Nick Chubb Jersey broke free for a 54-yard run just two plays earlier, and his big play also featured a few broken tackles and shifty jukes.

Cleveland has turned to its run game to seal wins all season. That plan worked again Sunday.

6. Ward intercepts Wentz to finish the win

A full four-quarter effort from the defense was capped off in grand fashion from “The Warden.”

On the play directly after he was called for pass interference, cornerback Cheap Denzel Ward Jersey leaped and grabbed a high pass attempt intended for wide receiver Alshon Jeffery. The Eagles were threatening at Cleveland’s 10-yard line for a late-game touchdown that would’ve brought the score to within one possession, but Ward capitalized on the errant pass for the Browns’ second interception and third turnover of the afternoon.

The Eagles received the ball back with just over a minute left and scored a touchdown, which made Ward’s red-zone interception even more important to secure the win.

For the Ravens, Sunday’s loss was a hit to their pride.

Baltimore nemesis Derrick Henry delivered the knockout blow, rumbling 29 yards for the game-winning touchdown in overtime that sealed the Tennessee Titans’ 30-24 victory.

Once again, the Titans bullied Baltimore’s defense, breaking tackles and imposing their will in the end, similar to last season when they bounced the Ravens from the playoffs.

Offensively, the Ravens also failed during key moments. They put together a nice drive at the end of regulation, but settled for a field goal to force overtime instead of scoring a touchdown that would have won the game. Then in overtime, after winning the coin toss, the Ravens went three-and out. That set up the Titans’ game-winning drive, with Henry (28 carries, 133 yards) saving his longest run for last.

It was a brutal loss for Baltimore, not only because the Titans were the more physical team. The Ravens (6-4) have dropped two straight games for the first time this season, and they face a Thanksgiving night matchup in Pittsburgh against the unbeaten Steelers (10-0), who are threatening to run away with the AFC North. In a crowded AFC playoff race, the Ravens are now in third place in their division and a step behind a cluster of other contenders.

Having lost three of their last four games, the Ravens have reached a crossroad. Either they will play better from this point forward, or their season could end much sooner than expected.

“We just can’t play 60 minutes together as a football team,” defensive lineman Cheap Derek Wolfe Jersey said. “We’ll put a half together. This week we finally put three quarters together. Then in the fourth quarter, I don’t know if it’s because guys were getting worn down. There’s no excuse. We’ve got to play better football. You’ve got to tackle.”

The signature play of this game happened late in regulation, when wide receiver A.J. Brown barged his way into the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown play that gave Tennessee the lead for good. This wasn’t just a score by Brown. It was a statement.

After catching a short pass from Ryan Tannehill, four Ravens had a chance to tackle Brown – Cheap Chuck Clark Jersey, Cheap Marcus Peters Jersey, Cheap Marlon Humphrey Jersey and Cheap Patrick Queen Jersey. All of them failed. Brown is a powerful runner, but the Ravens will cringe watching replays of this run. Brown is a powerfully-built wide receiver, but he discarded the Ravens like the biggest kid at elementary school during recess, running through their attempted tackles and busting into the end zone standing up.

“You have to tackle better,” Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh said. “That’s the best run-after-contact team in the league. We did well early, but we didn’t finish strong enough.”

The Ravens knew this would be a tough matchup, trying to stop Henry with two of their best run stoppers, Cheap Calais Campbell Jersey and Cheap Brandon Williams Jersey, injured and out. For three quarters, Baltimore’s defense played well and contained Henry.

But the Ravens never put Tennessee away and they paid for it. Baltimore took a 21-10 lead with 9 ½ minutes left in the third quarter when Cheap Lamar Jackson Jersey found Cheap Mark Andrews Jersey for a 31-yard touchdown connection. Tennessee responded with a field goal, but the tide turned in the third quarter when Jackson threw a long pass that was intercepted by Amani Hooker at the Titans’ 9-yard line. Tennessee drove for another field goal to make the score 21-16, and the Ravens punted again.

That’s when the Titans began to dominate. They drove 90 yards on the touchdown drive that was capped by Brown steamrolling into the end zone. Even without Campbell and Williams, the Ravens expect more from themselves than to give up a 90-yard touchdown drive with the game on the line.

Tannehill ran into the end zone untouched for a two-point conversion to give Tennessee a 24-21 lead with 2:18 left in regulation, plenty of time for Jackson to lead a game-winning drive. It almost happened, with the Ravens reaching second-and-6 at Tennessee’s 10-yard line with 32 seconds left in regulation.

If the Ravens scored a touchdown in that spot, they still would have won, even after Brown’s demolition-ball touchdown. But the offense came up short again. Jackson’s pass intended for Cheap Willie Snead Jersey was incomplete, and then Jackson threw the ball away to avoid being sacked, leading to Cheap Justin Tucker Jersey field goal that forced overtime. For the third time in the game, the Ravens settled for a field goal and it came back to haunt them.

“We’ve got to finish drives with touchdowns,” Jackson said. “We just have to stop putting [Justin] Tucker out there; we have to punch it in.”

Jackson admitted the team was frustrated, and coming off a loss to the New England Patriots, this was not the response he expected.

“It looked like that team wanted it more than us,” Jackson said. “They were playing physical. When we went up, I felt like we just took our foot off the gas. But we just have to keep it going for the team.”

The Ravens don’t have long to get ready for the Steelers, who came-from-behind to beat the Ravens at home last month. That started the downward spin that has seen the Ravens lose three of their last four games. Asked about the team’s mindset, Jackson brought up his rookie season in 2018 when he became the starting quarterback when the Ravens were on a three-game losing streak. Baltimore won six of its next seven games to make the playoffs. That’s the kind of finish he wants this team to duplicate.

“We were in worse situations my rookie year, and we turned the season around,” Jackson said. “People were doubting us then. I feel like people want us to lose, but we just have to bounce back. We’re good. It’s going to be a rival game come Thursday, and we’ll turn up then.”

The Browns defense believes it can stack another quality performance together in Week 11 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Cleveland has played its best two defensive games of the season against its two previous opponents in the Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans, two teams that certainly don’t lack any offensive firepower but were limited to 23 combined points.

Many factors played into the low outputs. Sure, the windy conditions from both games made all passes a real challenge, but the Browns still found a way to stop the run and limit the short passing game against the Texans. Many Browns coaches and players also gave credit to the Week 9 bye week as an opportunity to get healthy and take a deep dive into what improvements can be made in the second half of the season.

“I felt like we were more consistent in terms of what we were doing,” defensive coordinator Joe Woods said Thursday. “We have played a couple of games where the weather has been a factor. I think all those things – the self-scout, the guys getting better and the conditions – helped us to play the game last week.”

Now, the Browns are looking to stay consistent and shut down the Eagles, who have struggled to find production offensively but have dealt with injuries to key players across their offense — and some of those players could return to a full capacity Sunday.

Tight end Zach Ertz and wide receiver Alshon Jeffery have played in just seven combined games this season. Jeffery saw the field for the first time last week but didn’t catch a pass. Ertz was designated to return from injured reserve Monday and could be available for the first time in more than a month.

Running back Miles Sanders also missed three games due to injury, but when healthy, he’s proven to be one of the most efficient rushers in the league — he’s averaged 6 yards per carry this season, which ranks third among qualified players.

“They are a team that has fought through injuries, and they are getting a lot of guys back and a lot of their guys back this week,” Woods said. “To what level and to what extent, we do not know that right now. When you surround a quarterback of this caliber with more weapons, it definitely makes it a tougher situation for us defensively.”

The defense’s biggest strength thus far in 2020 has been forcing turnovers, and that might be a big factor against quarterback Carson Wentz, who has thrown a league-high 12 interceptions. Wentz, who threw 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions last season, is still a talented quarterback capable of winning games with both his arm and his legs — he has 206 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the ground in 2020 — and likely will be given a huge boost by the returns of some of his top receivers.

The Browns, however, will look to spoil those returns and force takeaways. They’re 5-1 in games with at least one takeaway, and they’ve been longing to add more to their 14 turnovers.

“I just feel like (Wentz) is trying to do as much as he can for the team in order for those guys to make plays,” Woods said. “At times, whether it is rush or whether they are covering their receivers well, he may probably have some throws that he wants back. I think that is where the inconsistencies come. When you watch him, he is really just trying to make plays for his team.”

The Browns aren’t making any preconceived notions about the Eagles’ 3-5-1 record, either. Many of those games didn’t feature several of the Eagles’ top offensive playmakers, and now, for the first time all season, Philadelphia might have a full arsenal of talent.

But the Browns defense is playing some of its best football. The confidence is high and the pieces seem to be coming together for more strong performances. Oh, and if there were any concerns about the weather, the current Cleveland forecast for Sunday is calling for rain and winds around 10 miles per hour.

No matter what the conditions are like and who’s playing, the Browns will feel ready to keep thriving.

“We are prepared for it,” Woods said. “We are going to have to play at our best to have a chance.”
