The Steelers’ dreams of an undefeated regular season are history and they’ll have to wait at least until this Sunday to clinch a return trip to the postseason following Washington’s 23-17 victory this evening at Heinz Field.

Washington kicker Dustin Hopkins’ 45-yard field goal with 2:04 left in regulation provided Washington’s first lead. The visitors got into position to break a 17-17 tie on a 29-yard completion from quarterback Alex Smith to wide receiver Cam Sims on third-and-4 from the Washington 44-yard line.

Steelers quarterback Cheap Ben Roethlisberger Jersey was intercepted by former Steelers linebacker Jon Bostic on a pass that was tipped by defensive end Montez Sweat on first-and-10 from the Steelers’ 25 with 2:04 left in the fourth quarter.

Hopkins added another 45-yard field goal with 17 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

The Steelers’ last-gasp possession started from their 25 and ended with a completion to tight end Cheap Eric Ebron Jersey that ran out the clock.

“We’re not frustrated,” cornerback Cheap Mike Hilton Jersey said. “We just know we gotta play better.”

Added quarterback Ben Roethlisberger: “We just need to make plays. I need to deliver us into plays that are best suited for situations. It starts with me. I need to be better.”

The 5 p.m. kickoff was the second game in a stretch that includes three in 12 days for the Steelers, who next play this Sunday night in Buffalo.

The Steelers fell to 11-1.

Washington improved to 5-7.

“We just gotta make routine lays routinely,” head coach Mike Tomlin said. “We’re not making them routinely enough right now.”

The Steelers finished with slight edges in total net yards (326-318) and third down conversions (6-for-15, 40 percent to Washington’s 4-for-17, 24 percent).

Washington had a slight edge in time of possession (30:26-29:34) after having the ball for just 12:49 in the first two quarters.

Washington moved 53 yards in eight plays midway through the fourth and tied the game at 17-17 on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Smith to tight end Logan Thomas and Hopkins’ extra point.

Fill-in kicker Matthew Wright’s 37-yard field goal on the first play of the fourth put the Steelers ahead by seven at 17-10. Wright was activated from the practice squad prior to kickoff to replace Cheap Chris Boswell Jersey (hip).

Washington closed to within 14-10 after receiving the kickoff to open the second half. The visitors used 14 plays to drive 82 yards in 6:44 on a march that was capped by a 1-yard touchdown burst by running back Peyton Barber. Hopkins’ extra point drew Washington within four. Washington was able to extend the drive on a 31-yard flanker screen from Smith to Sims on third-and-14 from the Washington 14-yard line. Smith also hooked up with Thomas for a 30-yard gain to the Steelers’ 1.

The Steelers tied an NFL record when Robert Spillane sacked Alex Smith, for a loss of nine yards, in the first quarter of Monday’s game against the Washington Football Team.

With that sack, the Steelers now have a streak of 69 games with at least one sack, tying the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who set the NFL record over a five-season span (1999-2003). If the Steelers record a sack next week against the Buffalo Bills, they will set a new NFL record at 70 consecutive games with a sack.

The Steelers streak began in Week 8 of the 2016 season against the Cheap Baltimore Ravens Jerseys. James Harrison sacked Ravens’ quarterback Joe Flacco for the first of three sacks that day. Ryan Shazier and Anthony Chickillo also each added a sack.

During the span from 2016-2020, T.J. Watt has the most sacks with 46.5, followed by Cheap Bud Dupree Jersey (35.5), Cheap Cameron Heyward Jersey (32), and Cheap Stephon Tuitt Jersey (24). It wasn’t just them, though. The team combined for a total of 236 sacks during the streak, with 29 players contributing.

The Steelers defensive scheme sets the players up to be able to put up big sack numbers, but Coach Mike Tomlin said it starts with the players.

“Quality players. It starts there,” said Tomlin. “Guys like Bud (Dupree) and T.J. (Watt) and Cam (Heyward) and (Stephon) Tuitt. They provide a wave that we ride. They are good individually. They are good collectively. They are consistent in terms of their performances.”

Tomlin understands that as he was on the Tampa staff during three seasons of the streak (2001-03) as the defensive backs coach, so he definitely knows what it takes to have a streak like that.

“I have been a part of several groups like that,” said Tomlin. “I was fortunate to be a part of that Tampa group that this group often gets compared to. The thing I think about when I think about the two groups are the quality individual rushers who rush well together collectively.

“We’ve got guys you can characterize as really good individual rushers, but they rush very well together. The understanding of the larger body and how they fit into it makes it happen for them and that is what provides consistency.”

Steelers sack streak tidbits:
– The Steelers lead the NFL in sacks during the span of their sack streak.
– The Steelers recorded four plus sacks in 31 games during the streak, including two games with eight sacks (Week 4, 2019 vs. Cincinnati and Week 11, 2016 vs. Cleveland). They have only had nine games with just one sack.
– The Steelers have the most sacks against the Cheap Cleveland Browns Jerseys during the streak (44), with the Cheap Cincinnati Bengals Jerseys (30), and the Baltimore Ravens (29) next in line. The most sacked quarterbacks have been Andy Dalton (18) and Joe Flacco (14).
– The Steelers get sacks when it matters most as 65 of them during the streak have come in the fourth quarter.
– Devin Bush was the youngest player to record a sack during the streak, doing so while he was 21 years and 74 days old, while James Harrison was the oldest at 39 years and 164 days.

The Steelers broke the ice early in the second quarter following an opening 15 minutes that saw the two teams combine for six first downs and punt a combined six times.

Roethlisberger capped a 14-play, 72-yard drive in 6:16 with a 3-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Cheap Diontae Johnson Jersey. Wright converted the extra point and the Steelers led, 7-0. Running back Cheap Benny Snell Jersey converted a third-and-1 with a 2-yard gain at the outset of the drive, and Roethlisberger hit Johnson for 17 yards on third-and-12, Ebron for 15 on third-and-6 and wide receiver Cheap Chase Claypool Jersey for 8 on third-and-7 on the way to the end zone.

The Steelers struck again late in the second on a 50-yard catch-and-run touchdown connection from Roethlisberger to wide receiver Cheap James Washington Jersey. The one-play drive concluded a sequence that saw Snell stopped on fourth-and-goal from the Washington 1 and the Steelers’ defense force a three-and-out from the Washington offense. Wide receiver Cheap Ray-Ray McCloud Jersey 17-yard punt return established possession for the Steelers at midfield.

Wright’s second successful extra point made it 14-0 with 3:54 left in the first half.

Washington got on the scoreboard on a 49-yard field goal from Hopkins with one second left before the break. Washington used six plays and drove 28 yards in 49 seconds to close to within 14-3.

Inside linebacker Cheap Robert Spillane Jersey sack of Smith in the first quarter extended the Steelers streak of registering at least one sack to an NFL record-tying 69 consecutive games. Tampa Bay established the mark from 1999-2003.

Smith was sacked three times overall, including outside linebacker Cheap T.J. Watt Jersey NFL-leading 12th of the season. Watt forced a fumble in the fourth quarter that was recovered by Washington.

The Steelers out-gained Washington 211-114 in the opening 30 minutes, held a 17:11-12:49 edge in time of possession and converted four of nine third downs (44.4 percent) to zero for Washington in eight attempts.

Washington lost rookie running back Antonio Gibson to a toe injury in the first quarter after he’d carried twice and gained 14 yards on the ground.

The Steelers lost Spillane (knee) and cornerback Cheap Joe Haden Jersey (evaluated for a concussion) in the second half.

Everyone knows what to expect whenever the Steelers and Ravens get together.

What no one expected, coming into this week, was that the day and time that the two teams would next meet would change. Twice.

The NFL announced on Friday afternoon that the Steelers and Ravens will now face each other on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 8 p.m. at Heinz Field. The game will be broadcast nationally on NBC (WPXI in the Pittsburgh market).

The game was originally scheduled to be played on Thanksgiving. On Wednesday afternoon, the NFL first moved the game to Sunday after multiple members of the Ravens organization, including players, were placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 List.

Among those players are quarterback Cheap Lamar Jackson Jersey, defensive end Cheap Calais Campbell Jersey, as well as running backs Cheap J.K. Dobbins Jersey and Mark Ingram II.

“This is just an unusual year when it comes to everything that we have to do and that everyone has to do,” quarterback Cheap Ben Roethlisberger Jersey observed in advance of the news that the kickoff would be pushed back to Sunday. “We saw that early with the Titans game and byes and all these kind of things.

“What are you going to do? You just have to do what they tell you and go play ball.”

As they say, the show must go on and tight end Cheap Eric Ebron Jersey, who experienced the rivalry earlier this season, understands what it means.

“We won, right?” Ebron offered, recalling the Steelers’ 28-24 victory on Nov. 1 at Baltimore. “That’s exactly what I expect, I’ll just be honest with you.

“To me, it’s a football game. To me, they’re an opponent that doesn’t wear Black and Gold, so they’re just another opponent. To me, it is what it is.

“At the end of the day, y’all about to come into our house. And at the end of the day I don’t like losing at home, personally, so they’re just another opponent coming into our house that we’ve got to defend.”

The Steelers lead the all-time regular-season series 26-23, and are 3-1 all-time against the Ravens in the playoffs.

Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh is 14-14 against his opposite number, Coach Mike Tomlin, including the postseason.

Since 2008, 19 of the last 25 Steelers-Ravens games have been one-score affairs, including the Steelers’ four-point win in November.

And 14 of those have been decided by three points or fewer.

That’s five more such games than any other division rivalry over that time.

It is what it is, as Ebron maintained.

And there’s nothing else quite like it.

The different dynamic this time is the teams are seemingly headed in different directions, not that anything of that nature has meant much from a historical perspective.

The Ravens have lost two in a row and three of four, including their loss to the Steelers at home.

The Steelers are the 17th team since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger to begin a season 10-0. They lead second-place Cleveland (7-3) by three games and third-place Baltimore (6-4) by four games with six regular-season games remaining in the race for the AFC North Division championship.

But that said, Tomlin wasn’t even willing to concede a desperation advantage to the visitors.

“We’re desperate, too,” Tomlin insisted. “We’re all desperate to win this week. I’d imagine they view us in the same way, or I imagine it would behoove them to do so.

“That’s our attitude each and every week. We respect everyone and respect the level of desperation that everyone has and the urgency that everyone has, and we step into the stadium ready to match it.”

The Steelers fell behind early but responded with 27 unanswered points and stayed undefeated with a 27-3 victory over the Jaguars this afternoon at TIAA Bank Stadium in Jacksonville.

The Steelers improved to 10-0.

The Jaguars lost their ninth straight and fell to 1-9.

The focus turned immediately in the aftermath to Thursday night’s hosting of Baltimore (6-4 after an overtime loss to the Titans and third in the AFC North Division behind the Steelers and 7-3 Cleveland).

A potential regular-season record of 16-0 remains off the Steelers’ radar.

“Just focus on one week at a time, and that’s what this team has done,” quarterback Cheap Ben Roethlisberger Jersey said. “We’re not chasing perfection, we’re chasing a Lombardi (Trophy).”

Roethlisberger’s 20-yard touchdown pass to tight end Cheap Eric Ebron Jersey with 6:40 left in the fourth quarter provided the exclamation point in Jacksonville. Kicker Cheap Chris Boswell Jersey extra point accounted for the final margin.

“We did the job,” head coach Mike Tomlin said. “We checked the boxes.

“It wasn’t perfect, but nothing’s perfect about us except our record.”

Wide receiver Cheap Diontae Johnson Jersey had his second consecutive 100-yard game receiving, with 12 catches for 111 yards.

Boswell’s 47-yard field goal with 10:21 left in regulation had been the only scoring in the second half prior to the Roethlisberger-to-Ebron touchdown.

The Steelers have scored at least 24 points in every game this season.

“We gotta put more points on the board,” Roethlisberger insisted. “Offensively, we got the win but we know we need to be better.”

Roethlisberger went 32-for-46 passing, for 267 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception, before being relieved late by Cheap Mason Rudolph Jersey.

HIGHLIGHTS: Steelers vs. Jaguars Week 11
The Steelers gained 110 yards on their first 24 rushing attempts after failing to crack the 50-yard plateau on the ground in three consecutive games. Their final possession consisted of Rudolph kneeling three times and losing 4 yards while running out the clock.

Running back Cheap James Conner Jersey had 89 yards on 13 carries (a 6.8 average).

“We weren’t down on ourselves,” he said of the running game. “We knew we had an opportunity to keep growing.”

Running back Cheap Benny Snell Jersey 1-yard touchdown run with 44 seconds left prior to halftime gave the Steelers a two-score lead. The Steelers drove 61 yards on seven plays in 2:13 after nose tackle Cheap Tyson Alualu Jersey pass deflection and free safety Cheap Minkah Fitzpatrick Jersey interception and 37-yard return to the Steelers’ 39-yard line. Boswell’s extra point put the Steelers ahead, 17-3.

The Steelers achieved their first lead of the afternoon on a 31-yard touchdown pass from Roethlisberger to wide receiver Cheap Chase Claypool Jersey. The possession covered 71 yards over six plays in 2:49. The touchdown was Claypool’s eighth receiving and 10th overall in 10 games. Boswell’s extra point made it a 10-3 game.

Boswell had tied the game at 3-3 with a 44-yard field goal with 10:45 left in the second, a kick that capped a nine-play, 50-yard drive in 4:15.

The Jaguars took a 3-0 lead on the game’s first possession. Jacksonville’s nine-play, 52-yard drive in 4:03 was culminated by kicker Chase McLaughlin’s 41-yard field goal.

Boswell missed a 45-yard try with 8:47 left in the first quarter, which snapped streaks of 14 straight field goals this season and 25 in a row overall dating back to last season.

An interception in the Jacksonville end zone on the last play of the first half denied the Steelers a chance to add to their advantage.

The Steelers outscored the Jaguars, 17-0, out-gained them, 185-69, and possessed the ball for 9:46 in the second quarter. Strong safety Cheap Terrell Edmunds Jersey also had an interception, his first of the season, in the quarter.

Edmunds and Fitzpatrick each accounted for their second interception on the day, the third and fourth collected by the Steelers’ defense, in the fourth quarter.

Defensive end Cheap Stephon Tuitt Jersey sack of quarterback Jake Luton in the third quarter extended the Steelers’ streak to 67 games with at least one sack, two shy of the NFL-record of 69 (Tampa Bay, 1999-2003). The defense finished with two sacks.
