It’ll be hard to top what Cheap Olivier Vernon Jersey did last week against the Eagles, but he’s certainly going to try.

The veteran pass rusher is looking to build off the three-sack performance that earned him AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors. And he’ll be doing so in his second consecutive game without Cheap Myles Garrett Jersey on the opposite side of the field.

Vernon touched on that dynamic and more in his conversation with ClevelandBrowns.com.

CB.com: This is been another weird week with COVID-19 protocols changing up the practice schedule almost every day. How’ve you handled it personally and how have the guys around you dealt with it?

Vernon: It’s really interesting with everything that’s going on now. At the end of the day, everyone’s going through it, some worse than others. Right now we’re just trying to prevent anything bad that could possibly happen. Coach (Kevin Stefanski) is doing the best he can as far as doing everything on the fly and making sure everyone is getting prepared for this game. Everybody that’s up and ready to make this flight, mentally they’ve got to be there as far as game plan and knowing what your assignment is and just being ready. It’s a get-ready, stay-ready mentality.

CB.com: How is the team rallying behind being down so many players?

Vernon: I think guys are just stepping up. At the end of the day, the guys that are getting the reps are putting in the extra time and learning as much as they can. This is our job and you’re supposed to be ready no matter what, no matter how many reps you get. The coaches expect us to be ready no matter what. I think a lot of the guys are just trying to keep things simple with the game plan and knowing what the coaches want from them. Everybody is helping each other. The teammate that’s next to you has to do his job just as effectively as you have to do yours. All that plays into it.

CB.com: You’ve got five sacks since Week 8. Has something clicked or are you just feeling healthier or both?

Vernon: It’s just a matter of everybody playing together. If the guys are doing their job of covering and staying solid and I’m doing what I have to do, and my teammates on the D-Line are doing what they have to do, everybody has an opportunity to make plays. That’s how the defense functions. That’s how guys are able to make plays, when everyone is on the same page and doing what they have to do.

CB.com: Was it special to you to earn AFC Defensive Player of the Week, especially in a week when Garrett wasn’t on the field?

Vernon: Honestly I’m just glad we got the W. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters. Whatever accolades some people get, it doesn’t really matter if it doesn’t amount to any wins. We’re able to move forward and make something special out of this season.

CB.com: What’s the defense done better over the past three games?

Vernon: It’s communication. If the guys in the backfield are locking things down, it just helps us because we’re able to put pressure on the quarterback, which helps them. It’s a balance. Everybody is feeding off each other. That’s one of the biggest things we’ve been able to do, especially on defense. Everybody is keeping it simple and knowing their assignments, executing the way Coach Woods wants us to execute. Everything else ends up panning out the way it does.

CB.com: What do you like best about this defensive line?

Vernon: We just have more experience. It’s funny because on one side it’s all veterans and the other side is all young guys. As veterans, it’s our job to do whatever we can to help the younger guys be ready, especially guys that haven’t played as much coming into a game. as veteran players, you give as much knowledge to the younger guys and give them confidence so they can have confidence in themselves.

CB.com: After what you went through last year, how rewarding does it feel now to enter Week 12 at 7-3?

Vernon: I think it’s something special that Cleveland hasn’t had in a long time. It’s special for us as well. We’ve got a lot of guys that have been here for a while and been through the ups and downs. We’ve got guys that have been on other teams and been through the same thing. It’s a whole collective group of guys that are trying to come together and make something special out of it and trying notch wins every week at a time. Everybody is honing in and staying focused.

CB.com: When did you get a feeling this kind of season was possible?

Vernon: Honestly, I kind of knew what type of team we had when I first got here last year, as far as the amount of guys that were just hungry to win. Everybody’s got talent. Yeah, we had a lot of talent last year, but as far as the hunger in guys who wanted to win, I sensed that when I got traded here last year, but things didn’t pan out the way it should have. That’s football. The vast majority of guys coming back for this year, you still see the same hunger from guys throughout the team. Guys want to win, guys want to be relevant down the stretch. Right now, the cards are in our hand and we control our own destiny with what we do from here on out, so I’m excited.

The Browns rolled through the Eagles for a 22-17 Week 11 win that improved their record to 7-3, their best record after 10 games since 1994, and pushed them a step further in their push to the playoffs. The offense used big — and, at times, hurdle-filled — runs from their running backs to find the end zone. And even though the Browns were without defensive end Myles Garrett, the defense still made punishing plays against the Eagles’ offense.

Here are the plays that mattered most in the win:

1. Browns force red-zone takeaway on first Eagles’ drive

Cleveland was without two of its top defensive playmakers when the Eagles entered the red zone on their first drive of the game.

Garrett, who entered Sunday with the NFL lead with 9.5 sacks and was tied for the lead with four forced fumbles, was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday. Safety Cheap Ronnie Harrison Jersey, who was on the field for every defensive snap in Week 10, exited the field earlier in the drive to get looked at by the medical staff.

But the absences of two top players didn’t stop the defense from halting an early threat from Philadelphia. Running back Miles Sanders lost his grip on the ball as he moved through the trenches at Cleveland’s 5-yard line. Safety Cheap Karl Joseph Jersey, who entered in relief of Harrison, pounced on the ball and sealed the turnover.

That was only the start of a massive day from the defense.

2. Sione Takitaki seals first career pick-six

The Browns defense re-invigorated their turnover abilities Sunday in quick fashion.

When quarterback Carson Wentz, who led the NFL with 12 interceptions entering Week 11, dropped back for a second-and-7 from Cleveland’s 46-yard line, he didn’t see cornerback Denzel Ward bringing pressure. Ward got a piece of Wentz’s throwing arm, and the ball sailed high in the air.

Takitaki was in the area and had plenty of time to make the catch and sprint to the end zone. He dropped to his knees and held out his arms once he crossed the goal line and celebrated with teammates to cap off the biggest play of his NFL career.

The Browns were up 7-0, and the defense was eating into the Eagles’ offense early.

3. Mayfield fumbles, Eagles recover in the red zone

The Browns’ first drive of the second half took a quick and unfortunate turn on second-and-8 from Cleveland’s 30-yard line.

As Mayfield maneuvered through the pocket for a pass attempt, Pro Bowl DT Fletcher Cox swatted his hand at the football, which slipped away from Mayfield’s grasp and fell backwards into an empty backfield. No Browns players saw the fumble — the ball was behind all of them — which made it easy for Eagles linebacker Alex Singleton to pounce on it at the 19-yard line.

The Eagles quickly turned the takeaway into points and threw a touchdown on the next play to even the score at 7-7.

4. Vernon sacks Wentz in the end zone for a safety

The Browns defensive line thrived without its best player against the Eagles’ offense.

Even though Garrett wasn’t on the field with them, each player from the defensive line had bright moments Sunday. None was bigger than Cheap Olivier Vernon Jersey game-changing play in the third quarter.

Vernon recorded his third sack of the game when he sacked Wentz into the end zone grass for a safety that put the Browns up 12-7. Vernon, as well as Cheap Larry Ogunjobi Jersey, Cheap Sheldon Richardson Jersey and Cheap Adrian Clayborn Jersey, all stepped up with big games to fill the void from Garrett. Vernon, meanwhile, recorded the most sacks by a Browns player since Garrett in Week 2 of last season.

5. Hunt flies over defender for second TD

Cheap Kareem Hunt Jersey took flight with 9 minutes left in the fourth quarter — literally.

Hunt appeared to run on air as he hurdled over Jalen Mills to reach the pylon for a 5-yard touchdown run that put the Browns up 19-10 after a successful PAT. He originally broke a tackle from a defender in the backfield before he turned the corner and prepared his leap, and he landed in the end zone when both feet finally returned to the ground.

The unbelievable play followed another special run from another Browns running back. Cheap Nick Chubb Jersey broke free for a 54-yard run just two plays earlier, and his big play also featured a few broken tackles and shifty jukes.

Cleveland has turned to its run game to seal wins all season. That plan worked again Sunday.

6. Ward intercepts Wentz to finish the win

A full four-quarter effort from the defense was capped off in grand fashion from “The Warden.”

On the play directly after he was called for pass interference, cornerback Cheap Denzel Ward Jersey leaped and grabbed a high pass attempt intended for wide receiver Alshon Jeffery. The Eagles were threatening at Cleveland’s 10-yard line for a late-game touchdown that would’ve brought the score to within one possession, but Ward capitalized on the errant pass for the Browns’ second interception and third turnover of the afternoon.

The Eagles received the ball back with just over a minute left and scored a touchdown, which made Ward’s red-zone interception even more important to secure the win.
